Made in Melbourne - Street Photography in Black and White

Updated: May 17, 2022

It has been a pure joy to photograph this amazing city of Melbourne since 2007. Capturing everyday life and the cityscape.

The Made in Melbourne - Street Photography in Black White project is a collection of photos taken over the year since 2007. It's been a project of love and continues today.

I chose to showcase the photos in Black and White taking any distraction from colour and giving the images a timeless, classic feel.

I have always been a big fan of Black and White photography admiring some of the greats such as Ansel Adams, Julia Anna Gospodarou and Bruce Gilden to name a few. This project seemed like the perfect platform to produce the Melbourne City images in Black and White.

Equipment used

I started off the project with a Sony A-100 and then upgraded to Canon 5D III with a 24-105mm lens. Using Photoshop to convert the images to Black and white.

The photos were taken in and around the Melbourne CBD. During the night and day capturing everyday life in the city. Joggers out for a run, buskers performing, commuters on public transport, a couple under a street lamp enjoying the evening along the Yarra and more.

The images span over 10 years of photography. This will be an ongoing project in the coming years. More images can be seen in the video below
