Big, Bright and Simple - Part I

Aa cityscape/street photographer it was hard to create new images with restrictions and stay at home orders during the COVID pandemic. I truly missed being able to go out and about in the city of Melbourne to photograph. This meant I had to adapt to keep my business and motivation going.

I experienced anxiety, stress and some depression. If not for the love and support of my family and without having my photography as an escape, I would have struggled to make it through these unprecedented times.

I created my Big, Bright and Simple COVID photo series at home, with 98% shot in-camera with little to no post-production. Photoshop was used to enhance the colours and brighten the images with a little manipulation to remove the props that I used to elevate items.

To bring a little brightness and vividness to the gloomy days, I created this simples basic series. Some may find this uninteresting, but it was my way to de-stress and to experiment with my photography. It was also a great opportunity to spend time with my kids, who helped me with the setup.

All my images were shot on a Canon 5D III and a 24-105mm lens. The basic settings are:

1/30sec, f/14 with ISO between 640-1000.
